Turf Replacement Central Coast

Patchy, weedy or worn-out lawn? We work out why it failed, fix the ground, and lay fresh turf cut at our Peats Ridge farm within 12 hours of reaching your yard.

Replace your tired lawn with one that lasts on the Central Coast

Bare patches, bindii, ground packed hard as concrete, dirt tracks where the dog runs, grass that gave up under the trees. Most Central Coast lawns don’t die overnight. Something under the surface wears them down, and if that isn’t fixed, new turf laid over the top usually goes the same way.

So we start with the cause, not the turf. On your free on-site quote we look at how much sun each part of the yard gets, what the soil’s like, where water sits after rain and how the space gets used. Then we tell you straight which grass will actually hold up, strip out the old lawn, prepare the ground properly, and lay turf that was still growing in our paddock that morning.

Why Central Coast lawns fail,
and how we fix each one

Patchy, Thin or Dying

Bare and thinning patches are usually a sign of a problem in the soil, not just tired grass. We find the cause, rebuild the base with fresh underlay, and lay a full lawn so you're starting again on the right footing.

Weeds and Bindii Taking Over

Once weeds outnumber the grass, patching won't win. We strip out the old lawn and the weeds with it, then lay dense, weed-free turf that leaves far less room for them to get a foothold again.

Hard, Compacted Ground

Years of feet, bikes and cars pack the soil tight, and roots can't push through. We dig over the surface soil before laying, so your new lawn can root deep instead of sitting on top and drying out.

Shade Where Nothing Grows

A lot of failed lawns are simply the wrong grass in the wrong spot. Kikuyu needs full sun, while Sir Walter Buffalo copes with around 3 hours of direct sun a day. We match the grass to your yard, and we'll tell you honestly if a spot is too dark for any lawn.

Worn Out by Dogs and Kids

If the backyard's turned into a dirt track, you need a lawn that bounces back. Kikuyu repairs itself fast from heavy wear, and Sir Walter stays soft underfoot. We'll help you choose based on how your family actually uses the yard.

How we replace your lawn

Whether we lay it or you do, here’s how an old lawn comes out and a new one goes down, from first call to first mow.

1. Book a free quote and lawn check

We come out, measure up and look at why your current lawn struggled: sun, soil, drainage and wear. You get a quote at no cost and an honest recommendation on which grass suits each part of your yard. If water’s pooling because of a drainage issue, we’ll tell you before you spend money on turf. Doing it yourself? Ring through your measurements, or follow our step-by-step measuring guide.

Remove the old grass and weeds, dig over the surface soil to break up compaction, add a layer of quality underlay, and rake and firm it so it’s level. This is the step that decides whether your new lawn lasts, so it’s worth doing properly. If you’re going with Kikuyu, it’s also the time to fit edging along garden beds. Supply and lay: the removal, preparation and levelling are part of the job. Doing it yourself? Have it finished before your turf is due.

We harvest your turf at Peats Ridge no more than 12 hours before it lands in your yard. Less time rolled up means healthier turf on arrival and a lawn that roots in faster.

We deliver to your address and put the rolls where they’ll be easiest to lay. Got a trailer? Collect straight from the farm instead.

Lay your turf on the day it’s delivered, and no later than the next day. Offset each row so the joins don’t line up, push the ends snugly together, and press every roll down firmly onto the soil. Supply and lay: we lay it for you.

Water the new lawn thoroughly as soon as the last roll is down, then keep the soil underneath damp with a daily watering for the first week or two. Hold off on heavy use for around two to three weeks while the roots take hold. Every job comes with our watering and aftercare instructions, and if anything doesn’t look right, give us a call.

Which grass should replace your old lawn?

Picking the wrong grass is one of the main reasons a new lawn goes patchy again. We grow two varieties at Peats Ridge, and between them they suit most Central Coast yards. Tell us about your sun, shade and how the yard gets used, and we’ll tell you straight which one will hold up, even if it’s the cheaper option.

Sir Walter Buffalo

Grass

Soft underfoot, deep green and our best pick for partly shaded yards. Ideal where the old lawn thinned out under the trees or along the shady side of the house.

Kikuyu

Grass

Tough, fast-growing and quick to repair itself, and our most affordable lawn. Ideal for big sunny backyards where kids and dogs wore the old lawn down to dirt.

Common questions about
replacing your lawn

Can I lay new turf over my old lawn?

We don’t recommend it. Turf laid over existing grass and weeds can’t root properly into the soil, and the old growth pushes back through. For a lawn that lasts, the old lawn needs to come out and the ground needs preparing first, which is part of every Peats Ridge Turf Supplies supply-and-lay job.

Fix the cause before you lay. Most Central Coast lawns fail because of the wrong grass for the conditions, compacted soil, heavy shade or water sitting on the surface. On your free on-site quote we check all four, recommend the right grass, and prepare the ground properly, then give you clear watering instructions for the first few weeks.

Sir Walter Buffalo. It copes with around 3 hours of direct sun a day, while Kikuyu needs full sun for most of the day and thins out in shade. If a spot gets less light than that, we’ll tell you honestly that no lawn is likely to thrive there.

Kikuyu is the usual pick for yards where dogs run, dig and wear tracks, because it grows fast and repairs bare patches quickly. Sir Walter is softer and handles shade better, so if your dog yard is partly shaded, it can be the better choice. Tell us how the yard gets used and we’ll recommend one.

Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are ideal. Warm soil helps new turf root quickly without the stress of peak summer heat. We can lay in summer too; it just needs more watering in the first couple of weeks.

Fresh, dense turf on well-prepared ground leaves far less room for weeds to establish. Some weed seed can stay in the soil, so keeping the new lawn thick with regular watering, feeding and mowing at the right height is the best defence. We’ll tell you what to watch for in the first season.

It depends on the size of the area, which grass you choose, and how much preparation the ground needs. Kikuyu is generally cheaper per square metre than Sir Walter. Peats Ridge Turf Supplies gives a free on-site quote and measure, so you’ll know the full price, including delivery, before any work starts. Ring 0409 912 824 to book.
